Hot stone massage while Pregnant

Pregnancy do’s and don’ts. Doesn’t it seem like there are a lot more don’t than do? Here are just a few…

  • Don't eat raw meat

  • Don't eat deli meat

  • Don't eat unpasteurized milk products

  • Don't sit in a hot tub or sauna

  • Don't drink a lot of caffeine

  • Don't clean the cat's litter box

  • Don’t skydive

Well I’m here to say I DO hot stone massage with aromatherapy for healthy low-risk pregnant clients. When you’re pregnant there are necessary precautions to take to ensure mother and unborn child’s safety. Hot stone massage is simply adjusted to the needs of the pregnant woman. The goal for the pregnant client is to feel relaxation and soothing heat therapy in a safe controlled environment. As I don’t want to raise the core temperature the room is kept cooler with more air flow than a typical 90-120 minute HST massage. The length of the session is also shortened to 80 minutes and the stones are used only while in motion with my hands. The massage will be in a comfortable sideline position where the mother is lying on their side with pillows and cushions to further ensure comfort. Depending on the client’s preference the massage can be completely scent-free and forgo aromatherapy with essential oils entirely.

Pregnancy can be a time of great joy but also great stress especially if it’s your first time! If you have questions about being massaged while pregnant or using essential oils please don’t hesitate to ask or even better, bring it up with your doctor. Having approval from your doctor is a great way to begin the conversation and ease worries before an appointment. I ask that new pregnant clients call or text 503-707-7400 to book their hot stone massage or send an email to amanda@countrymassage.net.
