Swedish massage is one of the best known types of massage in the U.S. Although a Swedish man by the name of Henrik Ling did develop the massage techniques in 1858, as part of his medical gymnastics program, the techniques have been around since ancient times. It is a full body massage that incorporates techniques that include kneading and long gliding strokes using oil or lotion to reduce friction. The massage therapist usually uses the palm of their hands and forearms.
It is a good massage for improving circulation, promoting relaxation, and addressing muscle tension. It is usually slow and gentle, but the massage is based on the client’s preference of pressure, meaning all Swedish massages are not the same. Every person is unique and I like to respect that and provide the best care by not falling into a “one-size-fits-all” approach. If you’ve never had a massage before and are having trouble deciding which massage to book then I recommend choosing Swedish to introduce yourself to massage.
